But it seems her iconic double denim look may finally be in fashion – at least if Kylie Jenner is any indication.
The 17-year-old appeared to have taken inspiration from Britney’s unforgettable 2001 MTV Awards outfit as she stepped out in a denim skirt and matching crop top on Tuesday.
Indeed, all Kylie was missing was Justin Timberlake – whose double denim and denim cowboy hat can never be forgotten.
Kylie’s long and black hair was worn straight and loose, but this was not a sign of a casual look, as evidenced by her carefully made-up face.
While that face was mostly hidden under large black-and-white sunglasses, sculpted eyebrows and lips in a dusky pink were still visible.
For her shirt, Kylie transformed a standard blue-denim button-down into a crop top when she tied the front ends into a bow.
The results left a gap above the high-waist hem of Kylie’s fitted skirt.
Artful rips along each thigh were the only decorations on the skirt that fell to just above Kylie’s knees.
Bare legs and high-heeled, black ankle boots finished off the girl’s outfit, which was also accented by gold jewellery and a fringe-covered black purse.
The youngest member of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians clan has begun to show several signs of approaching adulthood.
That has included the purchase of a solo home – worth $2.7 million – in Calabasas, California, just around the corner from homes owned by half-sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian.
Kylie’s mother, Kris Jenner has publicly explained how hard it will be to have her youngest move out of the family home.
