Nigeria has now been ranked 4th out of 162 countries in a new Global Terrorism Index List released.
The rankings estimates 82% of terrorism in the 2013 occured majorly in only 5 countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Nigeria.
The rise of terrorism in Nigeria was brought by dreaded islamic sect and terrorist group Boko Haram which started to engage in significant violence from 2009 till date.
In 2013, the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram was responsible for the death of at least 1,587 people and claimed responsibility for nearly 90 per cent of all terrorist acts in Nigeria, states the report, which called Boko Haram “are one of the most
deadly terrorist groups in the world with an average of close to eight deaths per terrorist attack.”
