The three films will be released in 2016, 2018 and 2020, with Potter alumnus David Yates officially confirmed to direct the first instalment in the new series.
J.K. Rowling is currently writing the script for the first film, which will be set in New York and will focus on intrepid wizard Newt Scamander.
The story will be set long before Harry’s time, although there may be a few familiar characters that crop up along the way, as Newt sets about adventuring his way through the weird and wonderful world of Magizoology.
